What you should have read, but might have missed.

So much went on this past week/end.

  • As we mentioned before, PPNYC will be on WBAI tonight at 6pm and 11pm talking about the Nelson language in Health Care Reform.
  • And, health care reform. Senator Lieberman killed the public option in the Senate version of the health care reform bill.
  • And Senator Nelson introduced language into the Manager’s Amendment on the Senate that severely restricts access to abortion.
  • RH Reality Check, Feministing, and of course at Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
  • The bill also included perks for specific Senators.
  • The pro-choice Congressional caucus has “serious reservations” about the bill.
  • And there’s a backlash against the Nelson language from Republicans and anti-choicers too.
  • The New York Times has a full run-down on everything that was ‘compromised’ to get a majority of Senators on board with health care reform.
  • As a result, the Senate now has 60 votes that would pass the bill, and will most likely pass the bill as is.
  • The AP has a comparison of the House and Senate bills.
  • In non-health care reform news, transgender employees of New York State now have legal protection.
  • The 2010 Omnibus Appropriations bill ended funding for abstinence-only sex education and increased funding for family planning.
  • Which the the NYTimes wrote an editorial about.
  • The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy released a study that revealed serious gaps in young peoples’ knowledge about sex.
  • The Pew Center released a study that found that only a small percentage of teens “sext”
  • And finally, an Oaklahoma judge has extended a restraining order against an OK state law that would publish information about women who receive abortions on a public website.

That’s all we’ve got. What did you read?

UPDATE: We highly recommend reading Cecile Richard’s piece on the Huffington Post.
