Pictures from Michelle Goldberg’s Book Reading!

If you’ll remember, last week the amazing author Michelle Goldberg had a reading of her new book The Means of Reproduction at Babeland in Soho.

And it was fantastic! Michelle shared stories and facts from her book (like did you know George Bush Sr. used to be called “rubbers” because he was such a big proponent of condom use?) and talked about what she sees as the future of the reproductive rights movement in this country and all over the world now that we have an Obama administration in power. Everyone in the audience asked really smart questions too, and our own Jaweer Brown spoke about PPNYC’s international programs (like did you know we do work in the Dominican Republic, South Africa and Jamaica?).

If you haven’t yet read Michelle’s book yet or heard her speak, I highly recommend you do so. It’s totally fascinating as she goes into detail about the history of reproductive rights around the world, the different forces that have driven different movements, and how best to affect change in countries without becoming paternalistic.

In the meantime, check out our great photos below! And let us know, what good books have you been reading?
